Writers Bench and Play Energy Drink, under the auspices of Boogie Boutique, will host an informative “Music industry” workshop in March 2017.

Musicians, promoters and music professionals in the music sector are invited to apply to participate in the upcoming workshop in the following area:

Date: 2 March 2017, 2pm – 5pm (Afternoon Session)
Exhibition: 5pm – 10pm
Place: Chenshia, Redefine Building, Hans Strijdom, Foreshore, Cape Town

The workshop will provide musicians and practitioners involved in the local music industry with valuable knowledge and insight regarding music rights and responsibilities, including the role of the organizations such as SAMRO, The Department of Arts and Culture and Business Arts South Africa.

The workshops form part of a planned series of information, knowledge, and skills sharing opportunities designed to strengthen the live music sector. “We are pleased to partner with “Play Energy Drink” in presenting these workshops to assist artists to develop and strengthen the local music scene.

The proactive engagement of musicians, promoters, venues and other music professionals in all matters affecting the sector, an understanding of, licensing, intellectual property rights and royalties are essential in our quest to build a vibrant and viable performance circuit.

Workshop participants will have the opportunity to engage directly with representatives of, BASA, Department of Arts & Culture, SAMRO and Play Energy Drink.

Guest Speakers:

BASA – What Business arts South AAfrica is about and what is the organization’s objectives in the creative industry.
Capasso – Explaining how Mechanical Rights can be commercially exploited.
DoAC (Mzantsi Golden Economy) – Highlight the available opportunities for individuals and organization practitioners that the MGE can provide.
Play Energy Drink – Sponsorships in the arts and how brands and the arts can benefit through partnerships.

The Workshop will be followed by an art Exhibition by young local artists who varies in disciplines of expression and will be followed by an evening performance and musical showcase. The Exhibition falls in line with the Monthly “First Thursday” Art fair that takes place once a month in Cape Town.
