So we are bringing you another interview with some more local artists doing their thing in South Africa. We speak to Tommy Gun ahead of his gig at this years last Park Acoustics along with many other South African artists.

We spoke about Tommy’s top 5 tracks and his dream as a dj, pretty interesting answer. Have a read below:

1.For all the readers out there who may not be familiar with you, tell us a bit about yourself and how Tommy Gun started.?

My dad is an antiques dealer so I had privileged access to 60’s rock ‘n roll and 70’s disco records growing up in Cape Town. That is precisely where my love for music stems from, and the interest just grew and grew as I was exposed to the more contemporary sounds of Indie/Electro and Nu-Disco at Untamed Youth, a party which really was the game-changer for me and that I now run weekly in Cape Town (with Wayde aka Mudblud) and monthly in Jozi.

2.If Hollywood made a movie about your life, who would you like to see play the lead role as you?

Daniel Day-Lewis, to really ramp up the intensity.

3.What keeps you up till late?

Electronic music. The beautiful, creative and downright dancey kind, that doesn’t take itself too seriously.

4.What are your top 5 tracks at the moment?

1. Cut Copy – Free Your Mind

2. Holy Ghost! – Okay

3. Jagwar Ma – Come Save Me

4. Chromeo – Over Your Shoulder And on the dancier, dirtier side…

5. Boston Bun – Flasher

5.Do you have a dream as a Dj?

As a South African DJ, I wish I could play to more integrated crowds, generally-speaking. Otherwise I’d really like to play at a roller disco.

6.Which DJ would you like to swap places for one day if you could?

Dimitri From Paris or Erol Alkan. One for the glam and the other for the sweat!

Thanks Tommy Gun for your time, good luck for your gig and for the future.
