It’s safe to say Dean FUEL is one of the most accomplished DJs this side of the equator. His career reads like a dance music fairy tale. His ability to blend a range of electronic genres to ass–‐shaking effect has made him one of Cape Town’s hottest dance exports.

So we caught up with Dean Fuel ahead of the Space Ibiza SA Tour , and here is what he had to say.

  1. Have you handled these kind of events and size before?“Many times! I have toured with global brands such as PachaGodskitchen,Ministry of Sound, etc. and have also recently played to a crowd of 15,000 people when I opened for Swedish House Mafia earlier this year! Large scale international events & tours are kinda my thing ;)”
  2.  Which genre would you love to pursue but haven’t yet? “None! I am fortunate enough to be able to include many different genres and styles into the DJ sets that i play! Being a complete and utter music lover and fanatic, I have always been open to multiple genres of music. This have given me the opportunity to play alongside the world’s best, regardless of genre! From Tiesto and Armin Van Buuren, through to Jamiroquai, Basement Jaxx & Groove Armada, through to David Guetta, Avicii and SHM… I have been truly blessed!”
  3. What kind of pre gig routines or rituals do you have? “I guess the routine starts with packing my gig bag, and checking I have everything I need! Once I get to the show, I like to walk the floor – listen to the DJ before me, and hear what the sound system is doing! That way I can connect better with the crowd by having felt and experienced what they are experiencing. From there I like to set up my equipment, so that I don’t have to rush to do it later. … After that? A Tequila and Red Bull to fire me up before starting the set, then its all systems GO!”
  4. So how is the cape town music scene in your eyes at the moment?“Fantastic! So much talent across so many styles of music… plus a real sense of collaborating and working together to build something great is definitely in the air… I can’t imagine living anywhere else!”
  5. Any future plans to perhaps play in ibiza after the Space Ibiza SA Tour?“Absolutely! I am currently booked for a show in Greece later this year, and will try incorporate an Ibiza tour for the return trip”
  6. Do you have anything special planned for you set in Cape Town?“Of course – great music! Fresh tunes, and some unreleased gems! I’m very excited!”
  7. What does it mean to you to be playing alongside the likes of Roger Sanchez ; Danny Marquez & Camillo Franco “I always relish the opportunity to play alongside touring international DJ’s – for me its like a cultural or knowledge exchange in terms of what other DJ’s play, and how they perform their sets. Playing alongside Roger Sanchez is of course really special – he’s a living legend in the scene, and he was definitely one of my early inspirations for DJing.”
  8. Anything else you want to say? Any shouts?“Having been to Space Ibiza many times, I can easily say it is one of the best clubs in the world today, and I can’t wait for SA to experience some of that magic for this tour! Massive thanks to G&G and Samsung for making this tour possible! For more details check out my website – – THANKS :)”Dean FUEL - Its TOO Loud
