Hi There Mr.Mon my name is Elvis and I am a co-founder of Clubbers 4 EDM; a music blog from South Africa. We were given the opportunity to interview you ahead of your Grietfest Gig. We appreciate the time you have taken to read through these questions and answering them.

C4EDM: For all the readers out there who may not be familiar with you, tell us a bit about Mr.Mon & how this all started.
Mr.Mon: My DJ career began over 10 years ago. I stepped onto the scene playing deep house then about 3 or 4 years ago I started playing with drum & bass and dub.

C4EDM: Influences, we all have someone or something that influences us to do something or achieve something. Who or what would you say is your biggest influence? What roll does your influence play?

Mr.Mon: There are a few but I’d have to say that my main influence would have to be our crew, Science Frikshun. We’re a very close knit group, always supporting each other not only to improve what we do but also our influence on the scene.

C4EDM: Describe these two genres of music please, Drum& Bass + Deep House.

Mr.Mon: To me they are very similar, at the core that is. Because you can incorporate almost any other genre of music to them whether it be Jazz or Hip Hop.

C4EDM: Youv’e have been around the Dance Music scene for a fair amount of years. What is your take on the scene today? What different between today and 2012?

Mr.Mon: Back then electronic music was a lot more underground than it is today. Also these days it seems that promoters are more concerned about making money than a decent line-up/production.

C4EDM: What is the difference between when you started and now, in terms of social media marketing?

Mr.Mon: These days people depend way to much on social media. Yes, social media is a necessity these days…but back then DJ’s had to hustle. Whether it be to get your name out there or just getting tracks that no one else had. Nowadays it’s a lot harder to keep your sets fresh, but I guess that’s what separates ”trend followers” from the true hustlers.

C4EDM: Just a little heads up for those attending GrietFest, what can they expect from you? You have any tricks you got stored for them?

Mr.Mon: I always have tricks up my sleeve, but let’s just say that what myself and Benson will be laying down will be most dope.

C4EDM: What are your thoughts on the GrietFest Line Up? Which of the artist would you suggest to party goers to come see apart from yourself?

Mr.Mon: The entire line up is quite fresh…But i’d have to say Black Sun Empire.

C4EDM: When you visit our website, www.clubbers4edm.co.za, what is your first impression?

Mr.Mon: It’s shiny.

C4EDM: Bounce question: In a one-story pink house, there was a pink person, a pink cat, a pink fish, a pink computer, a pink chair, a pink table, pink walls, a pink telephone and a pink shower. Everything was pink. What colour were the stairs?

Mr.Mon: There aren’t any stairs…it’s a one story house.

C4EDM: Anything else you want to say? Any shouts?

Mr.Mon: Thanks for inviting to to the interview and a shout out to everyone who’ll be coming to party with us…It’s gonna be a proper party.

Thanks for taking the time out and answering these few questions we truly appreciate it.
